About Get Walking
Walking is a safe, simple, low-impact form of exercise accessible to just about everybody. Not only can it help you stay strong and fit, it can lower your blood pressure, reduce your risk of diabetes — or help manage it — and improve your mood.¹
Technology can help. Try using either a pedometer to count your steps or recording the time you spend walking. You can measure your progress weekly and track your results. The Journal of the American Medical Association reports that pedometer users increased their amount of physical activity by nearly 27 percent and decreased their body mass index.²
Independence Blue Cross has long supported walking for the health benefits it provides, and we’re re-energizing our efforts through a series of year-round activities in the region that will bring people together to enjoy our neighborhoods and strengthen the community one step at a time.
