Increasing Health Care Availability

Independence Blue Cross’s (Independence’s) mission is to enhance the health and well-being of the people and communities we serve. One way we do this is through our long-standing commitment to make health care coverage affordable for and accessible to everyone, regardless of income level.

Independence offers the Children’s Health Insurance Program. This program, combined with our traditional social mission as insurer of last resort, is what keeps our state’s percentage of uninsured people among the lowest in the nation.

Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

CHIP is a federally and state-funded program that provides primary and preventive health care insurance to children who do not qualify for Medicaid and whose families are unable to afford private coverage. For these children, Independence offers free or low-cost health coverage through Keystone Health Plan East. Learn more about CHIP.
