Preventive Health Screenings and Services*

For your employee’s convenience, we coordinate preventive health screenings and services in the workplace. A screening can help educate employees about potential health risks and stimulate positive lifestyle changes.

Screenings are offered as part of a comprehensive disease prevention and health promotion program and are utilized to support specific programs.

Preventive Health Screenings

Blood Pressure
High blood pressure directly increases the risk of coronary heart disease (which can lead to heart attack) and stroke, especially when it’s present with other risk factors. Blood pressure measurement is a preliminary way of assessing an individual’s cardiovascular status. This screening takes approximately 5 minutes per participant including education.

Body Composition
During the past 20 years, obesity among adults has risen significantly in the United States. The latest data from the National Center for Health Statistics show that 30 percent of U.S. adults 20 years of age and older — over 60 million people — are obese. Being overweight or obese increases the risk of many diseases and health conditions. Body Composition screening measures the percentage of fat your body has in proportion to your lean body tissues (muscles, bones, organs). Measurements are taken with either skinfold calipers or infrared devices (Futrex).

Body Mass Index (BMI)
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) defines normal weight, overweight, and obesity according to the BMI rather than the traditional height/weight charts. Since the BMI describes the body weight relative to height, it correlates strongly (in adults) with the total body-fat content.

The BMI scale (Tanita) measurement is based upon individual height and weight.

Please Note: Participants will need to remove their shoes and socks for this screening. Pantyhose may not allow for proper readings.

DermaScan Skin Analysis
Excessive exposure to the sun can cause skin cancer, which is currently the most common type of cancer. More than 800,000 people get skin cancer each year. The DermaScan is an interactive tool, which enables the individual to view the amount of sun damage on their face. This screening takes approximately 5 minutes per participant including education.

Hearing
The hearing test we administer measures both high- and low-frequency ranges, and the results are discussed with participants.

Obesity Screening
The obesity screening includes calculating an individual’s Body Mass Index (BMI); measuring height, weight, and waist circumference; and determining their waist-to-hip ratio.

Total Cholesterol (TC), High Density Lipoproteins (HDL), TC/HDL Ratio Screening
A high level of cholesterol in the blood — hypercholesterolemia — is a major risk factor for coronary heart disease. Knowing your cholesterol level is an important part of decreasing your risk for cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, or other health problems. Through a blood finger-stick test, participants learn their total cholesterol and HDL levels with TC/HDL ratio. This is a non-fasting exam.

Visual Acuity
The visual acuity tests provide identifies individuals with visual abnormalities of a sufficient degree to warrant follow-up with an ophthalmic practitioner. A passing standard of 20/20 in each eye is desirable.

Services

Seated Chair Massage
Massage therapy has been known to reduce stress, soothe sore muscles, promote relaxation, increase blood flow, stimulate the nervous system, and relieve muscle spasms. Participants will receive a 3 – 5 minute seated-chair massage.

Hand Massage
The hands, wrists, and arms can hold much tension and pain, especially if a person works a lot with his or her hands. Massaging hands, fingers, and joints can relieve some of the tension and pain that is felt. Participants will receive a 6 – 8 minute hand massage.
