Improving the health of school children is critical to Independence Blue Cross (IBC) and the communities we serve. Lack of funding can be a formidable barrier to resource-strapped schools striving to meet federal and state wellness mandates for students.

That’s why we are offering area schools Health eTools for Schools — a unique, web-based program designed to help our schools promote student wellness and combat childhood obesity.

We are providing the Health eTools program at no cost to all public, private, parochial, and charter schools in the five-county Philadelphia region through September 1, 2010.

Health eTools provides extensive online resources and interactive tools to help school staff, administrators, nurses, and parents:

• Measure, report, and record changes in student health.
  
  
• Create healthier learning environments through better nutrition and physical activity planning for students.
  
  
• Improve student attitudes and knowledge regarding nutrition and physical fitness.
  
  
• Develop wellness policies and implement strategies that help schools meet federal and state wellness requirements.
