X12 Gateway Transition

As one of the area’s leading health insurers, Independence Blue Cross (IBC) is steadfastly committed to our mission of enhancing the health and wellness of the people and communities we serve.

In 2012, we announced an agreement with Highmark to use their operating platform for our core processing activities. This means that IBC employees will continue to process IBC claims but will be using Highmark’s systems instead of IBC systems. Moving our processing capabilities to the Highmark platform will enable us to gain efficiencies and lower operating costs. It will also allow us to add new capabilities that enhance the overall customer experience.

We have had an effective vendor relationship with Highmark for decades, and this operating platform agreement is yet another example of how we are working with our Blue partners to transform the delivery of health care.

Timeline

We will be migrating X12 transactions from our current X12 Gateway to the Highmark Gateway beginning in the second quarter of 2013. In early 2013, IBC and Highmark will launch a website dedicated to IBC trading partners who submit and receive transactions through the Highmark Gateway. Until then, you can continue to visit this site for the information you need to submit and receive transactions during the X12 Gateway transition.

IBC and Highmark are committed to ensuring a seamless transition with comprehensive communications and tools before, during, and after the transition to the Highmark operating platform.

IBC HIPAA Transaction Standard Companion Guide

The IBC HIPAA Transaction Standard Companion Guide (“Companion Guide”) is now available.

The Companion Guide provides information on how to submit and receive transactions through the Highmark Gateway. This Companion Guide is only for use with the Highmark Gateway.

IBC HIPAA Transaction Standard Companion Guide

Until you begin sending IBC transactions through the Highmark Gateway with a new DataStream Trading Partner ID, you should continue to use the existing IBC Companion Guides available on our EDI Forms & Guides page.

We will continue to reach out to you with more details about the transition. In the meantime, if you have any questions about when/how to begin using this guide, please contact us at gateway.transition@ibx.com.
