Independence Blue Cross Hosts Second Annual Wellness Tour, Offers Free Health Screenings

Tour encourages participation in company-sponsored Blue Cross Broad Street Run

Philadelphia, PA - April 18, 2008 - Independence Blue Cross, the region’s leading health insurer and title sponsor of the Blue Cross Broad Street Run, will once again sponsor a Wellness Tour to promote healthy lifestyles and encourage participation in the Blue Cross Broad Street Run on May 4. The company introduced the Tour last year, attracting more than a thousand visitors throughout the region.

From April 21 through April 30, the Independence Blue Cross Wellness van will travel to county courthouses and fitness events throughout the Delaware Valley. Visitors to the van can take advantage of free blood pressure checks and derma screens, which detect skin abnormalities. Anyone who participates in the screenings will be entered into a drawing for an exciting Philadelphia-theme gift package that includes a football autographed by Sheldon Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles, and Phillies and Franklin Institute tickets. Registration information for the Blue Cross Broad Street Run will also be available.

“One of the best ways to encourage people to adopt a healthier lifestyle is to get out in the community and talk with them one-on-one about eating wisely, exercising and scheduling preventive care,” said Joseph A. Frick, Independence Blue Cross president and chief executive officer. “With the increased awareness and excitement surrounding the Blue Cross Broad Street Run in early May, we want to take advantage of opportunities to encourage more people to get active and promote the many benefits of healthy living.”

The Wellness van will also be available for blood pressure and body composition screenings at City Hall in Philadelphia on April 30, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. during National Walk @ Lunch Day, which IBC is sponsoring for the first time this year. More information about this event can be found by visiting www.ibx.com/news_events/events/walk_at_lunch.html.
