Independence Blue Cross Ninth Annual Healthy Kids Fest Promotes Winter Health, Fun

Philadelphia, PA - January 12, 2006 - Whether you're a kid or a kid at heart, you can take advantage of fun, healthy ways to get fit this winter at the Independence Blue Cross Ninth Annual Healthy Kids Fest on Sunday, January 15 at the Blue Cross River Rink at Penn's Landing.

The Healthy Kids Fest, taking place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Columbus Boulevard at Market Street, features music and free activities for the whole family:

  • Interactive games and games designed to increase coordination and promote good sportsmanship
  • Live workout center/mini-gym
  • Information and tips on how to stay healthy during the tough, winter months
  • Blood pressure screenings, pulse readings and stethoscope monitoring for children participating in the day's activities. The tests will be conducted by the West Chester University Athletic Training Club.
  • Ice skating demonstrations by the Philadelphia Skating Club at 12:20 p.m. and 2:20 p.m.
  • Face painting, make-and-take crafts, balloon artistry and special giveaways

B101 radio and its mascot, Buzzbee; the Penn Maid Dairy spokescow, Queenie; and Cabot Creamery will also be on hand to provide giveaways, interactive programs and free samples of healthy snacks.

Skating sessions cost $6 per person and are available during the Healthy Kids Fest from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Skate rental is $3 and convenient parking is available for $8. Those covered under an Independence Blue Cross health care plan are eligible to receive $2 off admission when they show their Independence Blue Cross ID cards.
