Press ReleaseIndependence Blue Cross: A 'Best Place to Work'Honored For Third Consecutive Year Philadelphia, PA - December 5, 2003 - For the third consecutive year, Independence Blue Cross (IBC) has been named among the 100 Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania. IBC placed 16th in the "Large Sized Company" category. IBC was ranked 19th last year. "This state-wide recognition of our dynamic work environment confirms that IBC is an employer of choice not just here in the region, but across Pennsylvania," said G. Fred DiBona, Jr., President and CEO of IBC. "This is due, in no small part, to all of our associates who make IBC an excellent place to work." Created by the Ridge-Schweiker Administration, the Best Places To Work in Pennsylvania program is a public/private partnership of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, Central Penn Business Journal, Kuntz Lesher LLP, the Team Pennsylvania Foundation, and the Great Place to Work Institute. The survey and award program was designed to help identify Pennsylvania's best employment opportunities, retain talented employees and recognize forward-thinking work environments. The Best Places to Work in PA program is made up of 100 companies split into two groups: 50 medium sized companies (50-250 employees) and 50 large sized companies (251 employees or more). The winners were chosen by the Great Place to Work Institute using the same formula as the Fortune "100 Best Companies to Work for in America." A two-part process, which follows a formula similar to Fortune Magazine's annual "100 Best Companies to Work for in America" is used to determine the 100 Best Places to Work in PA. The first part consisted of an evaluation of each company's workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. These assessments were performed by Kuntz Lesher LLP and made up 25 percent of each company's score. The remaining 75 percent of the score was the evaluation of a survey mailed to randomly-selected employees who rate the company on issues such as corporate credibility, community involvement, benefits and employee camaraderie. The complete list along with company spotlights will be published in the January edition of the Central Penn Business Journal. Independence Blue Cross is the largest health insurer in Southeastern Pennsylvania, providing coverage to nearly 2.9 million members in Pennsylvania and contributing to the health and well being of the region through its extensive health and community partnerships, sponsorships and educational programs.
