At Independence Blue CrossBridging the gap between the clinical setting and the practice of health care administration The IBC Nursing Internship Program at Independence Blue Cross is designed to give undergraduate nursing students who have completed at least one clinical rotation a behind-the-scenes look at how managed health care works. The unique program offers nursing students the opportunity to bridge the gap between the clinical material taught in the classroom and the actual practice of health care/insurance administration in a business and clinical setting. Nurse interns are able to gain a new perspective on the multitude of roles that nurses play in health care administration, including, but not limited to case management, medical policy, and quality management, while also acquiring an in-depth understanding of the policies and practices of a health insurance company. Independence Blue Cross Nursing Internship Program At Community Health Center ClinicsExploring the challenges and rewards of public health and providing care to underserved populations The IBC Nursing Internship Program at Community Health Center Clinics offers nursing students the unique opportunity to gain experience at area non-profit clinics that are supported through IBC’s Charitable Medical Care (CMC) Grant Program. These clinics provide free or low-cost care to the uninsured and underinsured population throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania. Student nurse interns are assigned to assist under the direct supervision of nurses, Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners (CRNPs), nurse practitioners or physicians on site at a clinic. This Nursing Internship Program draws on IBC’s Social Mission partnerships with both the clinics, and the 31 area accredited Nursing School Programs supported through the IBC Nurse Scholars Program.
