As the Greater Philadelphia region's hometown health insurer, Independence Blue Cross (IBX) is proud to give back through our corporate volunteer program, The Blue Crew, and our associate giving program, Blue Crew Gives.
Since the Blue Crew's launch in 2001, associates have volunteered hundreds of thousands of hours to numerous nonprofits in the region.
Our associates are proud to live our company's mission to enhance the health and well-being of our communities through a variety of volunteer activities. From serving and preparing meals for our neighbors, to packing hygiene and disaster relief kits, to supporting green space clean-up efforts, the Blue Crew is there for our community.
Our volunteer activities are substantial: In 2025, Blue Crew volunteers participated in 188 community service projects, contributing more than 7,200 hours to nonprofit organizations throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Associate volunteers also recorded more than 5,800 hours of independent volunteer time contributed outside the Blue Crew program including serving on boards of local nonprofit organizations.
Through Blue Crew Gives, our associates can donate to their favorite nonprofit organization and receive a matching corporate gift. In 2025, the combined giving of associates and the company was nearly $1 million in support of more than 800 nonprofit organizations.
In 2025, more than half of all IBX associates volunteered their time and contributed donations to support regional nonprofit organizations, a reflection of our culture of giving back to the communities we serve.
The Blue Crew provides volunteer support to more than 60 nonprofit organizations across the Greater Philadelphia region. Here are just a few examples of our longstanding volunteer partners.
For more than two decades, IBX has supported Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) of the Philadelphia Region through its Blue Crew volunteer program. As Presenting Sponsor of the RMHC Served with Love program, Blue Crew volunteers help prepare and serve meals to families staying at RMHC Philly's Chestnut Street and Front and Erie Houses whose children are receiving life-saving medical care. In 2025, the Blue Crew dedicated nearly 400 volunteer hours to supporting RMHC families.
Share Food Program is the leading hunger relief organization in the Greater Philadelphia region, and one of the largest independent food banks in the nation. For ten years, the Blue Crew has provided monthly volunteer support to Share, helping assemble senior food boxes that reach more than 7,000 clients each month, sorting fresh produce for distribution to local food pantries, and packing cars for food box delivery. In 2025, more than 250 Blue Crew volunteers contributed over 600 hours of service to Share.
The Blue Crew partners with Cradles to Crayons' Ready for Learning® Program, including the annual Backpack-a-Thon event, with more than 140 volunteers providing 325 hours in 2025 to help support the academic and social preparedness of thousands of local children. Blue Crew volunteers pack brand-new backpacks filled with school supplies, essential items, and personalized cards of kindness so children have what they need to thrive — at home, at school, and at play. The Blue Crew also supports Cradles to Crayons' work to end clothing insecurity year-round, with associates volunteering in the Giving Factory to sort donations of clothing, shoes, diapers and more to be distributed to children throughout our region.
For 90 years, Variety, the Children's Charity has created accessible opportunities for people of all abilities to nurture independence and self-confidence. The Blue Crew supports Variety's signature events and social, educational, and vocational programs year-round, with 50 associates volunteering more than 170 hours in 2025.
Fairmount Park Conservancy brings parks to life, working with the City of Philadelphia and its communities to care for green spaces that support neighborhood vitality, cultural resources, and public health. The Blue Crew is a regular volunteer partner, supporting initiatives such as the Love Your Park program to steward Philadelphia’s neighborhood parks as places for safe, welcoming, and family-friendly recreation. In 2025, the Blue Crew engaged in nearly 200 hours of volunteer service with the Fairmount Park Conservancy, engaging in plantings, park cleanups, and hands-on gardening projects that help strengthen and maintain our shared environment.
