Independence Blue Cross (IBX) partnered with Re:Dish, a company committed to reducing waste by replacing disposable packaging with reusable food containers at our 1901 Market cafeteria.
IBX has partnered with Alvéole, an urban beekeeping company, since 2020 to maintain and monitor bee hives located on our balcony. The hives are an important part of our efforts to support the local ecosystem.
The Associate Wellness & Fitness Center at our IBX headquarters in Philadelphia earned a LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, which verifies that a building or renovation project meets the highest green construction and performance measures.
In 2023, IBX began a multi-year lighting upgrade project at its headquarters to replace fluorescent lamp fixtures with energy-efficient LED fixtures. The project will reduce operational costs and reduce energy consumption, resulting in energy savings totaling 92-watts per fixture.
IBX is committed to supporting the Philadelphia 2030 District, a public-private partnership led by the Delaware Valley Green Building Council, the City of Philadelphia's Office of Sustainability, and the Philadelphia Energy Authority to reduce the use of energy, water, and transportation emissions in the largest buildings in Philadelphia.
