Richard J. Neeson (Rick)Executive Vice President and Chief Development and Innovation Officer
Rick Neeson is executive vice president and chief development and innovation officer for Independence Blue Cross (Independence). In this role, he works closely with Independence President and CEO Daniel J. Hilferty to identify and execute on priority partnerships, which are central to advancing the company’s vision and achieving scale and new capabilities. He also oversees the Corporate Development and Innovation area.
Previously, Neeson served as executive vice president and president of expanding markets at Independence. In this capacity, he provided oversight for three key operating subsidiaries, as well as market expansion opportunities being pursued by the company.
Prior to this role, Neeson served Independence in various capacities where he had responsibility for all activities related to acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships, including negotiations, contract development, and oversight. He joined Independence in November 1993.
Before joining Independence, Neeson served as chief executive officer at Keystone Ventures, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Pennsylvania Blue Shield. Prior to 1988, Neeson spent eight years with Peabody International Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, as vice president of mergers and acquisitions and investor relations. He also held leadership roles at several financial and consulting firms.
Neeson holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master of business administration degree from the University of Connecticut.
