Alan KrigsteinExecutive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Treasurer

As executive vice president, chief financial officer, and treasurer, Alan Krigstein is responsible for all financial functions for Independence Blue Cross (Independence) and its subsidiaries. He also plays a key role in strategic planning and strategic new business development for Independence. Mr. Krigstein joined the company in 2009.

Mr. Krigstein has more than 35 years of experience in the insurance and health care industries. Prior to his current position, he served as senior vice president of Finance, chief financial officer, and treasurer at AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies (now AmeriHealth Caritas), one of the country’s largest Medicaid organizations, in which IBC is the majority shareholder, serving millions of beneficiaries in more than a dozen states through Medicaid managed care plans, administrative services, benefits management, behavioral health care, and other services. Mr. Krigstein had executive oversight of the corporate financial functions and financial oversight of new business development.

Mr. Krigstein has served on the board of Community Behavioral HealthCare Network of Pennsylvania (CBHNP), a behavioral health company wholly owned by AmeriHealth Caritas. He currently serves on the board of several Independence subsidiaries, as board member and chairman of the Investment Committee for Blue Cross Blue Shield Venture Partners II, LP, and as a board member of the Plan Investment Fund. He is also a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association

Mr. Krigstein received the Joy Wheeler Leadership Award from Medicaid Health Plans of America (MHPA) in 2008, and was previously nominated for CFO magazine’s CFO Excellence Award.

Mr. Krigstein holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Delaware.
