In his remarks, Dr. Liss spoke about some of the key issues affecting health insurers including those related to health care reform, such as essential benefits and new plans offered on the federal marketplace exchange. Dr. Liss also spoke about new payment methodologies for insurers, such as the growth of incents for delivering better primary care through patient-centered medical homes and shared savings under accountable care organizations.

In addition, Eric Estes, senior director of Pharmacy Services for IBC, also participated in a panel discussion at the Symposium. Estes discussed how manufacturers and health insurers can work together to best educate health plans about drug costs and treatment benefits.
