Independence Blue Cross associates volunteer during United Way Days of Caring

Philadelphia, PA - September 27, 2013 - This month, Independence Blue Cross (IBC) and its associates supported the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey’s annual Days of Caring by volunteering in a variety of community service projects. This year, nearly 230 IBC associates participated in 10 projects over three days.

60 IBC associate volunteers started this year’s Days of Caring projects at the SHARE Food Program last Friday to help with the distribution, bagging, and boxing of foods. In addition to volunteering at the SHARE Food Program, 19 IBC associates joined community members and corporate volunteers at the United Way’s Day of Caring Signature Site event last Saturday to help restore a North Philadelphia neighborhood. IBC associates rallied to clean the neighborhood playground, prepare education kits for local children, participate in landscaping activities, and take part in the community resource fair.

IBC Executive Vice President and President of Commercial Markets Chris Cashman kicked off the event, which began the 365 Days of Caring civic engagement initiative, with opening remarks at Hissey Park. IBC Vice President of Wellness and Community Health Kimberly Eberbach was in attendance as co-chair of IBC’s United Way Campaign.

“Every year, our associates volunteer enthusiastically during Days of Caring and help improve our community, one service project at a time,” said IBC’s Chris Cashman. “We’re pleased to support United Way and contribute to the well-being of the people in our region.”

In addition to this past weekend’s neighborhood event, IBC associates also participated in Days of Caring service projects on Wednesday, September 25 at other organization sites:
