Independence Blue Cross receives CEO Cancer Gold Standard Reaccreditation

Philadelphia, PA - April 8, 2013 - Independence Blue Cross (IBC) was recently re-accredited as a CEO Cancer Gold StandardTM employer for 2013. This honor recognizes the company's commitment to reducing the cancer risk of its associates and their families through screenings, early detection, and healthy changes in lifestyle. IBC was first recognized with this accreditation in 2009.

The CEO Cancer Gold Standard calls for companies to demonstrate an extensive set of actions to fight cancer in the workplace by focusing on five key areas of health and wellness: tobacco use; diet and nutrition; physical activity; prevention, screening, and early detection; and access to quality treatment, and clinical trials.

"Reinforcing our commitment to our associates' wellness is vital to what we stand for, as a company whose mission it is to enhance the health and wellness of the people and communities we serve,” said Kimberly Eberbach, IBC’s vice president of wellness and community health. “We will continue to change the game with new programs to support our corporate culture of wellness and lead the way to a healthier society."

Past IBC workplace programs recognized by the CEO Cancer Gold Standard for demonstrating a commitment to associate wellness include: the company’s commitment to a tobacco-free workplace, its prescription drug coverage for smoking-cessation medication, and the IBC Wellness & Fitness Center.

The CEO Cancer Gold Standard program is an initiative of the CEO Roundtable on Cancer, a nonprofit organization that encourages corporate executives to champion workplace-based efforts to eliminate cancer as a public health threat.
