Independence Blue Cross executive speaks to business leaders on health care reform

Shares insight on the impact of reform on employee benefits

Philadelphia, PA - January 25, 2013 -  On Thursday, Independence Blue Cross (IBC) Vice President of Corporate and Association Affairs Scott Post joined with other industry leaders to discuss the impact the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) will have on employer-sponsored health insurance benefits. Post and the other panelists discussed steps that employers of all sizes can take to prepare for the full implementation of health care reform.

“The new health care reform law will expand access to insurance and broaden insurance benefits,” Post explained during the panel discussion. “While these new rules will increase benefits and reduce costs for some, others may find they have substantially higher premiums. In order to offer affordable plans for employees, businesses should continue to evaluate a range of comprehensive benefits, how much employees should contribute toward premiums, and who, such as spouses or dependents, should be covered by the plan.”

Among the strategic words of advice offered by the panel, Post suggested that companies prepare for health care reform by staying informed and understanding how the regulations will impact their current health insurance plan and the options available going forward.

Post went on to say, “After the final regulations are put in place over the next year, carriers will be revamping their products to ensure they are compliant with the law. New plan choices will be available, and you should work with your benefits professional to choose the options that meet the needs of your business and your employees, and are compliant under the Affordable Care Act.”

The event was hosted by M.F. Irvine Corporate Solutions, a benefits brokerage firm, and held at the Philadelphia Country Club in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania. The panel included accountants, insurance, and legal professionals.
