IBC Offers Free Stress Management Program and Resources for Members Impacted By the Hurricane

Philadelphia, PA - November 2, 2012 - Independence Blue Cross (IBC) has taken extra measures to ensure its customers and members in southeastern Pennsylvania have access to health care services as the process of rebuilding begins after the devastating impact of Hurricane Sandy.

IBC is working with Magellan Health Services, the company that manages behavioral health benefits, to offer crisis support to its employer customers through Magellan’s Critical Incident Stress Management program (CISM). Employers can arrange to have free stress management sessions with a specially trained professional, in order to help their employees cope with stress and trauma they may have experienced as a result of Hurricane Sandy. Counselors can help employees develop tools to manage the immediate and long-term effects of a traumatic incident.

Employers wishing to arrange up to four hours of free CISM services at their workplace should contact their IBC account representative.

Magellan is also offering a toll-free Information Resource Line, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for all IBC members, offering telephonic support that includes educational materials, information about support agencies and additional community resources to help callers cope and maintain good mental health during the recovery. Members can access this information at 1-800-327-7451.

If IBC members need to seek medical assistance, they are reminded to have their IBC member card and government-issued photo identification on hand. This will ensure that members can access medical care quickly and without confusion.
