AWARENESS PROGRAMS

We offer a variety of awareness programs covering a wide selection of health topics. These 45 to 60-minute seminars are upbeat and informative presentations delivered by a qualified Health Educator. Often scheduled during lunch breaks, these programs utilize visual aids, handouts, and giveaways to keep them fun. Both interactive and educational, these programs can address health topics that are relevant to your employees. There is a minimum requirement of 15 employees per session. Several topics are available online.

Stress Management

Learning to Relax

Overwhelmed? Between work, family, and social engagements we have plenty of things to wind us up, but how and when do we get to wind down? Learn about the types and symptoms of stress as well as techniques to keep your cool. Also how just 15 to 30 minutes a day of relaxation can refresh and rejuvenate you! Separately or in combination, relaxation exercises can help you to start, continue or end your day on a positive note.

Taking a Bite Out of Stress

Surprisingly, there is an optimal amount of stress that exists for all of us, but when we exceed that level it can lead to more serious problems. The goal should be to try and learn how to manage the stress that we have by incorporating simple but effective methods that will help to alleviate these daily hassles. Through this program participants will learn about the three stages of the stress cycle and be taken through the alphabet where each letter represents a useful tip on how to reduce the unnecessary stress in our lives.

Stress Hardiness

Feeling annoyed and impatient? Can’t stand waiting in line? If the little things get you down, learn how to develop a stress-hardy personality for coping with life’s ups and downs. Concepts introduced in this program include the importance of optimal lifestyle, developing a positive attitude, and taking structured action.

Breast Health Awareness

One in eight women will develop breast cancer at some time during her life. We all have eight women that we care about – you, your mother, your sister, your best friend, your aunt, your niece, your grandmother, a friend. Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women. This program provides an open environment for participants to ask questions and dispel any possible myths regarding breast cancer. This informative seminar will also encourage women to adopt preventive habits in detecting breast cancer: clinical breast examand mammography. Women are encouraged to discuss breast self exam (BSE) wth their health care providers. Both men and women are encouraged to attend!

What’s on Your Plate? Eating for Better Health

Do you ever wonder if you are eating all that the important components needed for a healthy diet? In this seminar, you will be taught about the basic building blocks of good nutrition and guidelines for a healthy lifestyle. Participants will learn about the recent changes to the food guide pyramid, the six major nutrients and where to find more rich sources of fiber. In addition, participants will discover the encouraging news about phytochemicals and why a diet rich in fruits and vegetables can become a disease-fighting arsenal for good health.

Cancer: What You Need to Know

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the United States today. More than likely, you or someone you know has been affected by the disease. The good news is that there are many things that we can do now that can help to reduce our risk of cancer. This program will cover the five most common types of cancer among men and women: skin, lung, colorectal, prostate and breast cancers. You will be taught the signs and symptoms, how to reduce modifiable risk factors, and the necessary screenings for you and your family for cancer prevention.

Getting to the Bottom of Bone Health

By the time we have reached the age of 30, our bones have become as strong as they are going to get. After that time, it is important to do what we can to keep our bones that strong and healthy throughout our lives. In this seminar we will discuss ways to prevent osteoporosis, signs and symptoms of the disease and preventive measures that you can take to reduce your risks. Watching Your Waistline

Weight loss can feel like an uphill battle for many as we continuously ride the rollercoaster of weight loss and weight gain. This program is designed to help you begin learning the important components of achieving weight loss in a healthy way that will lead to long term results. The program will cover valuable topics including why diets don’t work, the effects of crash diets on body composition and today’s distorted portion sizes. Participants will gain realistic expectations of achievable weight loss, be taught the benefits of a food diary, and learn that simple behavior modification techniques can help to reach and successfully maintain their weight loss goals.

Thinking About Quitting Smoking? Set Sail for a Healthy Lifestyle

Are you considering kicking the habit, but don’t quite know how to go about it? Have you attempted to quit in the past but haven’t found the technique that will help you quit for good? In this seminar you will learn about nicotine addition and withdrawal, identify smoking triggers, determine your level of readiness, and be given tips on how to stay smoke-free once you have quit. Long work days, hectic evenings and busy weekends. How can one possibly fit in an hour of exercise? Now is the time to start exercising. Decrease your risk of cardiovascular disease by finding time for minutes of aerobic activity, weight resistance training and stretching. This seminar will put you on your way to a healthier lifestyle!

Fitness Made Easy

In our 60-minute fully interactive "Fitness Made Easy" exercise demo you and your co-workers will learn some great exercises and stretches to tone up, increase your stamina, and reduce muscle stiffness. Every exercise be done at home, work, outside, or in the gym.

We will use dumbbells, tubes, gym balls and much more for a total body workout session. We will also show you some great exercises to tighten and strengthen the abdomen (the belly area). Fitness does not have to be difficult. Just come and see.

Starting and incorporating a fitness program into your life can be challenging for many reasons. You first have to determine what you want and need to do, learn how to do it, determine when the best time is, and where to do it. Topics discussed include proper posture, safe lifting, and ways to help to alleviate common aches and pains due to improper positions of workstation equipment.

Rise and Shine: The Essentials of Successful Sleep

Sleep is a basic necessity of life. When we sleep well, we wake up feeling refreshed, alert, and ready to face the day. When we don’t, every part of our lives can suffer. Over one third of adults report experiencing occasional or chronic sleep difficulties. In this program you will learn about the sleep cycle, discuss the most common sleep disorders, discover what could be depriving you of your Zzzz’s and develop self-care skills for improving the quality of your sleep.

Eating Right When on the Go

Do you feel that is hard to eat healthy while being constantly on the go? This seminar will teach you how you can eat nutritious and wholesome meals even on the busiest of schedules. Confused about food labels? You will learn what to look for on food labels and what the "Nutrition Facts" are all about. The program will also discuss how you can still eat healthy going through the drive-thru, tips on restaurant dining, and what snacks to keep on hand when you need a quick fix.

An estimated 50 to 70 million Americans will go on diets this year. For many, this represents a continuous pattern of weight loss and gain that may be detrimental to our physical and emotional health. To help break this dieting cycle, it is important to understand the negative aspects of losing weight through all of the fad diet weight loss programs. This seminar will teach you why fad diets don't work and clear up all the false claims; it will help you to identify a fad diet, as well as provide you with useful information to put you on the road to losing weight the healthy way.
