Health Screenings
Through the Wellness Partners® program, Independence Blue Cross provides a variety of preventive health screenings conducted at the worksite. The screenings are administered in onsite conference rooms.
STANDARD SCREENINGS AND SERVICES
Screening Time: 3-5 minutes per person
For scheduling purposes, there is a four-hour minimum and six-hour maximum for screenings.*
Standard Screenings include:
Blood Pressure
Blood pressure is recorded as two numbers. These two numbers are expressed as the systolic reading over the diastolic reading. Participants will receive their blood pressure reading and can also obtain information on normal and high blood pressure.
Body Composition
Did you know that 50% or more of your body weight is water? Participants are given an individualized fitness evaluation including the participant’s percentage of body fat. Improvements on body fat percentage, exercise and fat intake are then discussed with each participant.
- Futrex
This screening allows individuals to have their body composition assessed using infrared technology. The participant is asked to fill out an information sheet that includes their weight, height, body frame, exercise level. This information is entered into a computer and a wand is placed on the participant’s upper arm to measure their body fat percentage. In addition, Futrex provides information on fat weight, fat-free body weight and total body water.
- TANITA
Participants are given an individualized body composition evaluation through the use of electrical impedance. Through the use of this technology, the screening is able to provide individuals with an informative overview that includes their body weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), basal metabolic rate, fat mass, total body water, fat percentage, and fat-free mass.
Note: Participants will need to take off their shoes and socks for this screening. Pantyhose may not allow for proper readings.
DermaScan Skin Analysis
Through observation under a black light, the use of DermaScan will enable participants to screen their skin for areas of sun damage. The participant will place his/her head in a device enclosed by a drape. The black light will change the appearance of the skin, enabling the participant and health technician to view, in a mirror, the areas of the skin that are healthy and/or sun damaged.
Visual Acuity
The acuity and muscle balance tests in the Titmus II Vision Tester are designed on the widely accepted Massachusetts Vision Test concept. The tests provide a screening for identifying individuals with visual abnormalities of a sufficient degree to warrant follow-up with an ophthalmic practitioner. A passing standard of 20/20 in each eye is desirable.
Osteoporosis
Bone Mineral Density tests (BMD tests) can measure bone density safely and painlessly by detecting low bone density before a fracture occurs, and predict your chances of fractures in the future. The PIXI Bone Densitometer is a safe, fast, and non-invasive tool to assess BMD by examining only the heel of the foot. The PIXI uses dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), the established standard for estimation of bone mineral density. ($500/6-hours)
Hearing
A hearing test is the best way to determine if your ear drums have been affected by age, background noise, or other factors. The test measures both high and low frequency ranges, and the results are discussed on the spot with participants.
Fatal Vision
Participants wear goggles that simulate impairment caused by drinking alcohol. Fatal Vision goggles simulate blood alcohol levels of .07 to .2+. The individual wearing the goggles attempts to complete basic tasks such as walking a straight line, having a catch, and standing on one leg. Through this exercise, individuals will experience the adverse effects of alcohol to the reflexes, thought processes, and response times.
Seated Chair Massage
Massage therapy has been known to reduce stress, soothe sore muscles, promote relaxation, increase blood flow, stimulate the nervous system, and relieve muscle spasms. Participants will receive a 3-5 minute seated chair massage. (Not available on the Wellness Van).
BLOOD SCREENINGS
Screening Time: 5-6 minutes (includes test and results) per person
Price: $10 per person

Total Cholesterol Screening
Through a blood fingerstick test, participants are given their total cholesterol level. They can also obtain information on healthy cholesterol levels and possible ways to lower their cholesterol. This is a non-fasting exam.
