How long is the Nursing Internship Program?
It is a ten-week program, from Monday, June 8, through Friday, August 14, 2009.
Is this a paid program?
Yes, internships are paid temporary positions. Participants selected to be part of the program will be paid an hourly rate. Participants are not paid for holidays or sick time, nor do they receive benefits.
When is the deadline to apply for the Nursing Internship Program?
The deadline to apply for the 2009 Nursing Internship Program was March 31, 2009. We will begin accepting applications for the 2010 program in the fall of 2009.
Eligibility
What are the eligibility requirements to apply for the IBC Nursing Internship Program?
To be considered for the IBC Nursing Internship Program, you must:
- be an undergraduate nursing student currently attending one of the 31 accredited nursing programs in southeastern Pennsylvania supported by the IBC Nurse Scholars Program;
View the list of nursing programs sponsored by the IBC Nurse Scholars Program
- complete at least one clinical rotation by June 5, 2009;
- be available for the entire ten-week internship program beginning Monday, June 8, and running through Friday, August 14, 2009. Students will not be considered for this program if enrolled in summer day classes or have a vacation scheduled during those weeks.
What do you look for in an application?
Undergraduate nursing student applications are reviewed and matched to internship assignment requests submitted by IBC Health Services management and the clinics we support. In assessing an application, some of the major areas of consideration include, but are not limited to:
- student essay and nursing goals;
- classes and clinical rotations completed;
- student résumé and volunteer activities.
If I already graduated or will be graduating before the start of the 2009 Nursing Internship Program, am I still eligible to apply?
The IBC Nursing Internship Program is open only to undergraduate nursing students currently enrolled in one of the 31 accredited nursing programs supported by the IBC Nurse Scholars Program.
If you have already graduated or will graduate before June 2009, you will not be considered for this program.
The IBC Nursing Internship Program is a temporary developmental opportunity designed to complement the skill and experience levels of undergraduate nursing students with some clinical experience, who have not yet completed their undergraduate nursing education. To ensure the greatest benefit to all participants, the program is open only to undergraduate nursing students with appropriate skill and experience.
If I am enrolled in an accredited nursing program that is not one of the 31 area nursing programs but my permanent residence is in southeastern Pennsylvania, am I eligible to apply?
No.
At present, the IBC Nursing Internship Program is open only to undergraduate nursing students who currently attend one of the 31 accredited nursing programs in southeastern Pennsylvania supported by the IBC Nurse Scholars Program.

Why is the IBC Nursing Internship open only to students who attend one of the 31 accredited nursing programs supported by the IBC Nurse Scholars Program?
The IBC Nursing Internship Program was created as a companion initiative to deepen the impact of the IBC Nurse Scholars Program – a Social Mission program addressing the nursing shortage and overall health care crisis in southeastern Pennsylvania. This internship provides greater support to benefit the undergraduate nursing students enrolled at the 31 nursing programs.
The IBC Nurse Scholars Program supports 31 accredited nursing programs in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.
