Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

Low-income health plans

The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is a state and federally funded health insurance program that provides health insurance coverage to uninsured children who meet eligibility guidelines and are residents of Pennsylvania residing in the Independence Blue Cross service area of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. Depending on family size and income, eligible children are provided with free or low-cost ($25.00, $40.00, $50.00, or full-cost CHIP for $215.22 per month, per child) insurance through Keystone Health Plan East (KHPE) HMO.

As an administrator of CHIP, the Caring Foundation determines eligibility for CHIP applicants and provides health insurance benefits from KHPE HMO for enrolled children. KHPE HMO provides medical benefits through a large network of participating physicians and hospitals. United Concordia provides dental benefits through a large network of participating dentists.
