About Health eTools for Schools

The Health eTools for Schools program grew out of extensive investigation, research, and scientific study into a best-practices approach to improving nutrition, physical activity, and physical education in schools. All Health eTools for Schools content relating to nutrition and physical education is in alignment with Pennsylvania academic standards.

Development of the program was based on input from professional and advocacy organizations, such as the Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance; the Pennsylvania Advocates for Nutrition and Activity; and the Pennsylvania School Boards Association.

Health eTools for Schools offers best practices and resources that help school nurses, food service professionals, educators, and administrators measure, record, and report changes in student health indicators, behaviors, and attitudes about how students select foods at school.

Developed by InnerLink, Inc., Health eTools for Schools promotes student wellness and combats childhood obesity. The development of Health eTools for Schools was driven by the Highmark Foundation, an affiliate of Highmark®, Inc., which recognized the scarcity of resources available to schools that needed to comply with unfunded mandates, and sought to reduce health risks among children.

The Highmark Foundation offers the Health eTools program to all schools in the 49 counties of central and western Pennsylvania in which it serves. Independence Blue Cross provides the Health eTools for Schools program at no cost to all public, private, charter, and parochial schools in the five-county Philadelphia region in southeastern Pennsylvania.
