Independence Blue Cross Tenth Annual Healthy Kids Fest Promotes Winter Health, Fun

Philadelphia, PA - January 11, 2007 - Renew your New Year’s resolution of fun, fitness and family at the Independence Blue Cross Tenth Annual Healthy Kids Fest at the Blue Cross RiverRink at Penn’s Landing.

The Healthy Kids Fest, taking place on Sunday, January 14, from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the skating rink at Columbus Boulevard at Market Street, features music and free activities for the whole family. Beat the winter blues at the outdoor skating rink and enjoy these special promotions:

  • Interactive games designed to increase coordination and promote good sportsmanship.
  • Fitness demonstration, including a cheerleading demonstration presented by the Police Athletic League.
  • Live workout center/mini-gym.
  • Information and tips on how to stay healthy during the tough, winter months.
  • Face painting, make-and-take crafts, balloon artistry and special giveaways.

Independence Blue Cross’s Wellness Van – an interactive health exhibit on wheels – will also be at the Kids Fest to provide information and giveaways about nutrition, including MyPyramid for Kids, a handout made just for children about federal dietary guidelines; tattoos promoting Independence Blue Cross’s Gen Y Health Club, a Web site that highlights important health issues for children; and games such as Word Search, Fruit Scramble, and Veggie Scramble.

B101 radio and its mascot, Buzzbee, Cabot Creamery, and Acme will also be on hand to provide giveaways, crafts, and free samples of healthy snacks.

Skating sessions cost $6 per person and are available during the Healthy Kids Fest from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Skate rental is $3 and convenient parking is available for $8. Those covered under an Independence Blue Cross health care plan are eligible to receive $2 off admission when they show their Independence Blue Cross member ID cards.
