Independence Blue Cross Supports 2007 Delaware County Senior Games

Philadelphia, PA - June 15, 2007 - Independence Blue Cross is again proud to cosponsor the 17th annual Delaware County Senior Games. The weeklong event, held at various locations throughout the county, will begin Sunday, June 17, and end Saturday, June 23. More than 500 seniors, ages 50 and older, will show their commitment to staying fit by participating in the games.

Independence Blue Cross (IBC) supports the Senior Games to promote healthy lifestyles for seniors. The event features a variety of games including swimming, golf, tennis, table tennis, track and field, horseshoes, dance, shuffleboard, and a wheelchair/walker obstacle relay. There will be an opening ceremony on the first day that includes a parade of the participants, the lighting of the ceremonial flame, guest speakers, and a free concert. Seniors must register to participate in the games and forms are available at local senior centers, Delaware County offices, and the Brandywine Conference and Visitors Bureau. Participants and volunteers can register until June 17.

“The Senior Games is an exciting competitive activity for seniors, and fun for their families, friends and the entire community,” said IBC’s Stephen Fera, Vice President of Government Programs. “It’s also a reminder about the importance of staying physically active, eating wisely and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.”

IBC has cosponsored the Senior Games since its inception in 1990. IBC also cosponsored Senior Games in Montgomery, Chester, Bucks, and Philadelphia counties held earlier this year. Visit www.brandywinecountry.org and www.co.delaware.pa.us for an event schedule or more information.
