The recently updated Independence Blue Cross Wellness Van will make its debut at the Blue Cross Broad Street Run on May 1, 2005. Along with its new look, the Wellness Van features increased technology and access to those with disabilities. “The Wellness Van is just one of the many value-added services IBC provides for its members,” said Joseph A. Frick, President and CEO. “Whether at one of over 85 workplace screenings or on the road at a community event like the Blue Cross Broad Street Run, the Van is an interactive health exhibit that offers members and our community health and wellness information in a fun, special way that reminds everyone to think about one of the most important things to them - their health.” Inside, the Wellness Van boasts updated technology, including internet access to IBC's website, ibx.com where members can sign-up for Healthy Lifestyles programs, complete an on-line health assessment or explore the many features and capabilities of our member portal at ibxpress.com, which offers members a more personalized on-line experience and access to a wide variety of health information. Additionally, the Wellness Van now has wheelchair access to help accommodate the growing senior population and those with disabilities. Services will include a variety of health screenings, including: Height/Weight, Body Mass Index, Body Composition, DermaScan, Vision, Glucose, Cholesterol and more. Recent enhancements also allow for educational presentations addressing a variety of health issues to be conducted onboard. “The Wellness Van is host to a variety of healthy activities and screenings for young and old,” said Lorrie Reynolds, Director of IBC's Preventive Health & Wellness area. “It's a great way to make contact with not only our members but also the community. Through the Van, IBC can offer a variety of health screenings and education programs, including our Do The Smart Thing ® Youth Smoking Prevention Program. It's truly an amazing tool.” Last year, the Wellness Van could be spotted at more than 150 events, and nearly 50,000 people participated in screenings and educational sessions. In addition to the Blue Cross Broad Street run, this year the Van will attend a number of festival events at Penn's Landing, workplace wellness events and health fairs. On race day, runners and event goers can stop by the Van at the Philadelphia Navy Yard for a free Body Composition analysis.
