Registration for May 1st Blue Cross Broad Street Run

11,000+ runners expected to take part in 26th Annual Philadelphia 10-Mile race; other events announced for weekend of April 29th, 30th, and May 1st

Philadelphia, PA - April 19, 2005 - Independence Blue Cross and the Philadelphia Department of Recreation are continuing the runner registration drive for the 26th Annual Blue Cross Broad Street Run, officials announced today. The race is the second largest 10-miler in the country. It will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2005 at 8:30 a.m. in Philadelphia, beginning at the Central High School athletic field and finishing at the Philadelphia Navy Yard at the end of Broad Street.  Trophies and more than $10,000 in prize money will be awarded to the top five finishers in male, female, masters, wheelchair and age group divisions.

There are five ways for runners to obtain applications for the Blue Cross Broad Street Run:

  • On the Internet at www.broadstreetrun.com;
  • Calling the race hotline at 215-683-3594
  • Picking up an official entry form at participating Modell’s Sporting Goods stores;
  • Sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Blue Cross Broad Street Run, P.O. Box 18543, Philadelphia, PA 19129;
  • Registering in person at the Not For Runners Only Health & Fitness EXPO on Friday April 29 or Saturday April 30 at the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal Building – Pier 1 (Building #3) at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, 5100 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19112.
  • NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION

The entry fee is $28.00 up to April 29, 2005 and $33.00 at the EXPO.

Additional events surrounding the Blue Cross Broad Street Run will be held, including:

  • The 10th Annual Not For Runners Only Health & Fitness EXPO – open to the public – on Friday, April 29 (12 noon to 6:00 p.m.) and Saturday, April 30 (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) at the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal Building – Pier 1 (Building #3)

  • MetroKids Fun at the Broad Street Run events – featuring a one-mile fun run, dashes,  games, face painting, magicians, and the Annual Diaper Derby – on Sunday, May 1 (starting at 8:30 a.m.) at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.  Just $5 per child, children under 2 free.  Registration begins at 7:30 on race day.  The first 750 participants will receive a free t-shirt, commemorative gift and refreshments.   Call 215-683-3594 or visit www.broadstreetrun.com to download an application.
