- Infant sleep environment and sleep position.
- Use flame retardant sleepwear.
- Use car safety seats/lap/shoulder belts as height and weight appropriateness indicate.
- Obey/teach traffic safety rules.
- Use bicycle or motorcycle helmets; avoid bicycling near traffic.
- Properly install and test smoke detectors at home. Change batteries when you change the clocks in the Spring and Autumn.
- Under age 10: keep hot water temperature under 120°; use window/stair guards, pool fence.
- Safely store or remove drugs, toxic chemicals, firearms, and matches at home.
- Keep poison control telephone number handy.
- Avoid smoking.
- Adopt sun safety practices/protection.
- Discuss avoidance of underage drinking and drug use, driving and other dangerous activities while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Take CPR training.
- Encourage/practice regular physical activity as recommended by your child’s health care provider.
- Teach when and how to utilize 911 properly in emergency situations.
- Adhere to a healthy diet.
