Independence Blue Cross hosts free health fair on national senior health and fitness day

Philadelphia, PA - May 25, 2011 - Independence Blue Cross (IBC) is sponsoring its third annual free health fair for area seniors today at the plaza at 1901 Market Street in celebration of National Senior Health and Fitness Day and Older Americans Month.  The fair will provide health, fitness, and other information and resources for Medicare beneficiaries.

IBC is also the longest running sponsor of the Senior Games, a series of events in the five-county Philadelphia region that encourage physical and mental fitness among seniors through sports, games, and competitions. IBC has been an active supporter of the Games in each of the five counties since 1982. The events throughout the Philadelphia region attract more than 2,000 participants annually.   • Fitness demonstrations by the Philadelphia Senior Center and SilverSneakers
  • Music and entertainment
  • Complimentary refreshments, raffles
  • Health and finance information, and other resources for older adults provided by 15 companies, including:
    o Rothman Institute
    o Mayor's Commission on Aging
    o Social Security Administration
    o American Diabetes Association
    o Philadelphia Corporation for Aging
