Independence Blue Cross's Daniel J. Hilferty honored by Police Athletic League
Prestigious award recognizes support for PAL and the Philadelphia community
Philadelphia, PA - May 10, 2011 - Daniel J. Hilferty, president and CEO of Independence Blue Cross, will be honored by the Philadelphia Police Athletic League at its annual awards dinner tonight at the Center City Sheraton, at 17th and Race streets.
The 2011 PAL Award Dinner and Silent Auction will honor Hilferty's financial and volunteer support of Philadelphia Police Athletic League (PAL) events and programs. Philadelphia PAL will also honor Ruben Amaro, Jr. of the Philadelphia Phillies and Jeffrey Scarpello, Esq. of Penn-Del-Jersey Chapter, NECA for their contributions.
Hilferty, a member of the Police Athletic League's Honorary Board, has a long history with PAL. In addition, Independence Blue Cross has supported PAL for more than three decades through financial support and volunteer efforts of the company's Blue Crew Corporate Volunteer Program. PAL programs provide area youths with the opportunity to learn, grown, build self-esteem, and develop positive role models.
Deeply committed to our region, Hilferty lends his time and expertise to a number of additional organizations, including the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition, Irish Educational Development Foundation, American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter, and Drexel Neumann Academy. He is also the Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Saint Joseph's University.
About the Philadelphia Police Athletic League
The Philadelphia Police Athletic League is an independent nonprofit corporation committed to "Cops Helping Kids." Philadelphia PAL, a registered 501(c)(3), is comprised of 27 centers across Philadelphia serving 26,000 youngsters both male and female. Each center is supervised by Philadelphia Police Officers who are assigned full-time to direct activities and oversee the young people. Programs include sport, educational and cultural opportunities. All PAL Centers are open Mon-Fri after school (3 p.m. -9 p.m.) and throughout the summer.
PAL is a mixture of police officers, civilian staff and a board of directors, which is made up of 100 of Philadelphia's business and community leaders (several of which are former PAL Alumni themselves).
