Dr. Nash Inducted as Fellow of American College of Physicians
Philadelphia, PA - July 13, 2009 - The American College of Physicians (ACP) elected Esther J. Nash, MD, senior medical director, Population Health and Wellness at Independence Blue Cross (IBC), as a new Fellow at its 2009 scientific meeting for Internal Medicine recently held in Philadelphia, PA.
Fellowship in ACP is a mark of distinction. Dr. Nash earned this honor upon the recommendation of her peers who attested to her character, ethics, and excellence in medicine. The ACP bestows this honor based on a review of ACP's Credentials Subcommittee, and the culmination of Dr. Nash's achievements as an internist. As an internist, Dr. Nash had to complete intensified training on the prevention and treatment of adult diseases.
The ACP awards the Fellowship certification to those doctors who show that they are always growing and learning. This is established through activities such as teaching, hospital appointments, public service, community health planning, continuing medical education, and publishing scientific articles.
Dr. Nash continuously demonstrates her dedication to the field of Internal Medicine. While at IBC, Dr. Nash helped design and implement comprehensive preventive health programs for a population of over two million commercial and Medicare members throughout the region. She also helped create the company's "Healthy LifestylesSM Rewards", a program that encourages healthy behavior change such as smoking cessation and weight loss. Her proudest achievement during her tenure at IBC is the development of the ConnectionsSM Programs, which consist of disease management for over 25 chronic conditions, including a comprehensive clinical decision support program.
"We are proud to honor Dr. Es Nash for her induction into the American College of Physicians," said Dr. I. Steven Udvarhelyi, senior vice president and chief medical officer at Independence Blue Cross. "We are pleased to have a doctor with such passion for her profession in the IBC family."
A graduate of Brown University, Dr. Nash earned a medical degree from the Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University and completed her residency at The Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She resides in Lafayette Hill, PA with her husband and three children.
