Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes

On Saturday, October 5, 2013, people of all ages and backgrounds will come together at the Philadelphia Museum of Art for one common goal: to end diabetes, a disease that affects one in nine residents in the Philadelphia region and 26 million people across the country.

This is the sixth consecutive year that Independence Blue Cross (IBC) is the presenting sponsor of the American Diabetes Association’s Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes. For the 2013 walk, IBC has pledged to form a team of more than 450 walkers and to beat last year’s record-setting company fundraising total of $55,000.

Know Your Diabetes Risks

IBC is committed to creating awareness about the risks for diabetes, how to prevent the disease, and for those who have been diagnosed, how to better manage their condition and take steps to improve their health.

Most IBC health plans cover preventive care at no cost to members, which includes screenings for diabetes and other medical conditions that can cause diabetes, such as obesity. We also provide one-on-one support to members living with diabetes through our Primary Health Coach program. Our nurse health coaches are a single, trusted point of contact to help members more effectively manage diabetes and other challenging medical conditions.
