Social responsibility and community involvement are part of the Independence Blue Cross (IBC) social mission, which we foster through our many sponsorships and philanthropic efforts. Our aim: To make the communities where we live and work better places because we are here.
Working With Our Community
Examples of our community partnerships:
As a long-term partner of this program, IBC provides business leadership support to teacher and curriculum development initiatives and sponsors student interns from the Business Academy at Roxborough High School.
The Philadelphia Youth Network
This group expands positive summer activities for young people while promoting academic achievement and building work and career readiness.
The Pennsylvania Business Leadership Network (BLN)
Employers who operate and participate in this statewide network promote hiring practices that enable qualified people with disabilities to enter and succeed in the workplace. IBC participates in local meetings with BLN member employers and sponsors business meetings on disability awareness and the design and delivery of training.
The Customer Service Training Collaborative (CSTC)
The CSTC supports the workforce needs of employers in service-related industries. IBC is a member of the CSTC’s Employer Leadership Council and participates in the development of a national model for customer service certification programs.
Life Science Career Alliance
The Life Science Career Alliance aims to maintain and increase the strength of the life sciences workforce in the Delaware Valley by working to ensure the availability of a skilled workforce to support the life sciences sector. This sector includes hospitals, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology organizations.
Service to Our Community
Independence Blue Cross Blue Crew
The Blue Crew is a comprehensive community outreach program that connects our employees, their families, and our retirees with varied volunteer service projects. We are proud to support our neighbors, and every year, through Blue Crew initiatives, hundreds of IBC employees dedicate thousands of hours to enhance the wellbeing of our community.
Summer of Learning Internship Program
Our internship program provides college students with concrete, on-the-job training and experience in the field of their choice. They participate in daily operations, support business initiatives, and gain an unparalleled opportunity to put their classroom learning to the test.
