Community Partnerships

Social responsibility and community involvement are part of the Independence Blue Cross (IBC) social mission and have been realized through our many sponsorships and philanthropic efforts, all of which have one thing in common — our commitment to making the communities where we live and work a better place because we are here.

A long-term partner of the Philadelphia Academies program, IBC provides business leadership support to teacher and curriculum development initiatives and sponsors student interns from the Business Academy at Roxborough High School.

The Philadelphia Youth Council expands positive summer activities for young people while promoting academic achievement and building work and career readiness. In the summer of 2003, all participating youth attended pre-placement, work-readiness training at IBC and earned school credit or an employer-endorsed certificate of work readiness.

The Pennsylvania Business Leadership Network (BLN) is a statewide, employer-driven program designed for business leaders to promote hiring practices that enable qualified people with disabilities to enter and succeed in the workplace. IBC participates in local meetings with BLN member employers and sponsors business meetings on disability awareness and the design and delivery of training.

The Customer Service Training Collaborative (CSTC) supports the workforce needs of employers in service-related industries. IBC is a member of the CSTC’s Employer Leadership Council and participates in the development of a national model for customer service certification programs.

Life Science Career Alliance maintains and increases the strength of the life sciences workforce in the Delaware Valley. The Alliance works to ensure the availability of a skilled workforce to support the life sciences sector, which includes hospitals, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology organizations.

The IBC Blue Crew is a comprehensive outreach program that connects IBC employees, their families, and retirees with varied volunteer service projects that contribute to the well-being of our community.

The IBC Summer of Learning Internship Program is designed to provide support to key business initiatives while giving practical training to college students in their area of concentration.
