Associate Diversity & DevelopmentIndependence Blue Cross (IBC) values a workplace where diversity is embraced. We promote and support programs that recognize differences and value the different contributions our associates make to their teams and our whole company. The IBC Development Council Program enhances management skills in fundamental areas such as marketing, finance, business strategy, and organizational teamwork. Intended outcomes of the Development Council are to retain key employees, strengthen leadership in the middle of the organization, promote a deeper understanding of the Family of Companies (FOC), increase cross-fertilization of ideas, and provide ready access to expertise throughout IBC FOC. Executive Development for Women offers personalized coaching to high-potential management- and director-level women at IBC. It is designed to enhance their effectiveness as senior leaders and help them take on greater roles at IBC. Philadelphia Urban League Leadership Institute is an intense program for highly motivated current and emerging minority leaders. Through a nine-month course, business leaders from the Philadelphia region are challenged in their thinking on critical issues and leadership skills. IBC has grown its minority leadership over the past 15 years through participation in this program. IBC sponsors minority associates in the American Association of Health Plans Minority Management Development Program (AAHP MMDP) who demonstrate a high level of professionalism, excellent performance, and a strong work ethic, along with notable leadership potential. The program’s 12-month curriculum is creatively designed to provide management and leadership development and training for future health plan executives. The IBC Respectful Workplaces program helps associates create an environment of mutual respect where each can contribute his or her best and enjoy a safe, protective workplace. The program looks at unlawful, and often lawful, forms of disrespect and inappropriate behavior and provides associates with an awareness of the law, our policies, and their implications. The IBC Civil Treatment Workshop helps members of management increase their awareness of the importance of treating employees fairly and with appropriate consistency. Civil Treatment addresses such topics as age, race, gender, religion, and disability discrimination, while continuously emphasizing good management practices. |
