For the sixth year, Independence Blue Cross (IBX) is proud to shine a light on the region’s top nurses through our Celebrate Caring campaign.
Each day, nurses demonstrate their unwavering commitment to meeting the needs of patients and their families and making our communities healthier.
This year, we are introducing the Sunshine Award — named in honor of the late Paula Sunshine, former IBX Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Executive, who helped launch Celebrate Caring in 2019.
The Sunshine Award will be presented to three winning nurses this year for their commitment to delivering compassionate care, their dedication to the community, and innovation in their work.
Paula believed that nurses deserved our appreciation and gratitude, and IBX is proud to continue her legacy of recognizing and rewarding nurses for everything they do!

Christina provides behavioral health support to children and teens. In her role at CHOP, she manages care for those struggling with depression, anxiety, and eating disorders. Through this work, she develops meaningful relationships with patients and their families and serves as a mentor for her fellow nursing staff.
With exceptional persistence and patience, Juju improves lives daily at Pathways to Housing PA. She is passionate about improving the health and well-being of individuals experiencing homelessness and substance use disorders throughout Philadelphia.
Beyond her unique role as a Liver Tumor Coordinator at Penn Transplant Institute, Leah is committed to serving her community. She is on the board and volunteers with The Sunday Love Project helping people experiencing food insecurity. Leah stocks local fridges, keeps care packages on hand in the trunk of her car, and picks up excess food to be delivered to nonprofit organizations who serve the community.
